Superintendent Brown

August 2016

Welcome to the Nashua School District. It is an honor and a privilege to serve as Interim Superintendent of Schools for the Nashua community. Here in Nashua we take great pride in the diversity of our community, our excellent quality of life, and our community's support for its schools.

As a passionate advocate for public schools, I believe that locally elected school boards, working with a myriad of individuals, including the faculty, staff, parents, and community members, provide essential leadership for ensuring student success. This vision of equity and excellence for every child is one of my inconvertible beliefs and is foundational to the work done here in the District. I believe in the extraordinary potential of each student in the Nashua School District. Ensuring that each child succeeds requires everyone who is a member of our school community to work collaboratively to meet the needs of children. I am committed to providing graduates with the skills necessary for their success in college and career and to enable them to become a contributing citizen.

The opportunities provided to students in Nashua are diverse, including a rigorous academic curriculum, extensive career and technical opportunities, and exploration of the arts and humanities. Students are challenged to think critically and deeply about issues preparing them to become global citizens as well as to understand the importance of becoming an informed individual, one who contributes to our society and understands the importance of compassion and the democratic welfare of others.

One of the great assets in the District is the staff, who individually and collectively are committed to providing all students with a world class education. The Nashua School District has the distinction of attracting and retaining the best classroom teachers in New Hampshire and quite possibly New England. Each year we receive hundreds, even thousands, of applications from prospective applicants who wish to teach in Nashua. Through arduous interview and selection processes, teachers are chosen based on their academic scholarship, demonstrated ability to teach, and their commitment to children here in our community. Our new teachers are welcomed by a strong and well-trained group of veteran teachers who serve as peer mentors and wonderful sources of inspiration. Our administrators, para-educators, secretaries, food service staffs, custodians, and technology staff members share a common purpose with teachers, a commitment to excellence that ensures our success.

The Nashua School District works closely with a variety of community partners, including the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce, the Nashua Education Foundation, elected and appointed officials, and is well supported by the Nashua Board of Education. I am very proud to serve as Interim Superintendent of Schools, and I encourage you to join me in learning more about the good work underway in Nashua.

Sincerely,

Cornelia L. Brown, Ph.D.

"I look forward to working with the Nashua School District. You are a well-reputed district known for its diversity and the opportunities you provide students. I also look forward to working with the Board whom I find to be very focused on student success and the student experience. Most importantly we want to be sure all opportunities are accessed and that students are finding resources when it is most important. I look forward to getting started."
