Students joined their peers from across the country yesterday (March 14) and led a 17-minute walk out, respectfully honoring the memory of lives lost in Parkland, Florida last month.
As educators, it can be challenging when faced with student activism. I believe our administrators had two choices: 1) drop the ball on a teachable moment and ignore student concerns or 2) acknowledge the moment and help students channel their energies in an orderly and safe manner. We chose the latter.
To our students: Thank you for working with administrators and teachers. Thank you for thinking about others in grief. Thank you for being you and embracing the day.
